Poetry in Bloom at Powerscourt Estate

Poetry in Bloom – Nature Poetry Initiative

“Poetry in Bloom”, was developed by Powerscourt, in partnership with creative writing organisation Fighting Words and pays homage to Sheila Wingfield, the late Viscountess Powerscourt who was a gifted poet, with many of her poems inspired by nature and her surrounds at Powerscourt Estate. The initiative is supported this year by renowned International/Irish/ Hollywood actor Patrick Bergin.

We are inviting everyone from 7-year olds up to create a poem or write lyrics, inspired by nature they have observed at Powerscourt Gardens and Waterfall, throughout August and September 2020. All submissions are online and will automatically be entered into an open prize draw to win a variety of amazing prizes.

For all information on entering the Poetry in Bloom competition visit www.powerscourt.com/poetryinbloom. Submissions are sent directly to Fighting Words at fiction@fightingwords.ie

Celebrating Poetry in Bloom
All submissions will be reviewed by Fighting Words and included in a nature filled digital online anthology which will be published on Fighting Words’ and Powerscourt Estate websites in October.

A selection of entries submitted (poems, lyrics) will also be transformed into a poetry-film inspired by nature at Powerscourt (short 2-5-minute film) which will be circulated widely also.

  • You never know – your poem or lyrics may be selected and showcased!

Feature on the Virtual Poetry Wall

Your submission could also be selected for the virtual poetry wall on the Fighting Words website. It’s a living collection of pieces submitted to the Poetry in Bloom at Powerscourt initiative.
