Slow Mornings

Wake up to nature this May

Powerscourt Gardens launches ‘Slow Mornings’ experience this May

Part of Tourism Ireland’s Ireland Unrushed campaign

Powerscourt Gardens has announced the launch of ‘Slow Mornings at Powerscourt’, a new early access experience taking place across five weekends this May.

Running every Friday and Saturday, the initiative forms part of Tourism Ireland’s Ireland Unrushed campaign, which encourages visitors to slow down and experience Ireland at a more considered pace.

Visitors will have the opportunity to enter the gardens from 8.30 am, ahead of general opening hours, offering a quieter and more atmospheric way to experience one of Ireland’s most iconic landscapes.

~ Tree Trail * Biodiversity Walk * Immersive Path ~

Rather than a structured tour, Slow Mornings encourages visitors to move at their own pace, following a series of self-guided nature experiences designed to help visitors unwind and connect with nature.

At the heart of the experience is the Tree Trail, a 60-minute journey through over 250 years of planting. Visitors pass through avenues first planted by the Viscount Powerscourt and encounter remarkable specimens from around the world, from towering Douglas Firs to rare trees once thought extinct that now thrive in Wicklow’s climate.

The Biodiversity Walk offers a more grounded, sensory and educational experience. Moving through pollinator-rich planting, herbaceous borders and rewilded areas, visitors can see how simple interventions, from naturalising bulbs to companion planting, are creating habitats for bees, butterflies and wildlife. It is an experience that engages all the senses: colour, scent and the hum of pollinators at work.

For those seeking stillness, the immersive path through the Rhododendron Walk provides a quieter, more reflective space. A raised boardwalk leads visitors into the heart of a delicate ecosystem, where birdsong replaces background noise and dense planting creates a natural sense of enclosure. With over 100 species of rhododendron blooming from late spring, it is one of the most atmospheric areas of the gardens.

WHAT OUR VISITORS SAY

This place is amazing. Soo beautiful. We’ve been many times and each time we love it. We chose to come in May but maybe next time we’ll head over in June hopefully to see all the flowers blooming. The walks are soo relaxing and the view is just amazing. This time we stayed for lunch and cannot praise enough their food. Such fresh and tasty soup and sandwiches and yummy desserts. Cannot wait for our next visit as even if it’s far away from where we live and takes almost 3 hours to drive, it’s just soo beautiful ?

We visited Powerscourt gardens for the first time in late October. The walled gardens still had a colourful display of flowers and shrubs, the trees were in wonderful autumn shades and the Japanese gardens were delightful with the Acers looking very attractive. Powerscourt is certainly worth travelling to see if you are in the area.

I’ve been here many years ago and the grounds are just as beautiful as I remembered. The new addition of shops, Avoca cafe, nursery and distillery just adds even more things to do. This is a great place to stop and spend sometime.

This garden was incredible. We went on a very rainy day and it was difficult to really enjoy the beauty that was there. We quickly walked thru the formal gardens, Japanese garden and tower house. The collection of trees were magnificent but it was raining too hard to read all the labels Would definitely go back if we get a chance.

The walled gardens are the most amazing flowers I have ever seen. I could have looked at them for hours. The rest of the grounds are very beautiful and peaceful when there aren’t large tour groups. The lunch at Avoca is very good, fresh and reasonably priced. You can even have some retail therapy at the stores. Again, the most amazing flowers!!!
