Wednesday Full of Wish – Halloween Fundraiser in aid of Make-A-Wish Ireland

Powerscourt Gardens and Waterfall, recently featured as filming locations in Netflix’s cult hit Wednesday, will host a special Halloween fundraising event on Wednesday 29 October 2025.

Visitors are invited to step into the spirit of Samhain by dressing in their best Wednesday or Halloween costume. Those who do will help raise funds for Make-A-Wish Foundation Ireland, which grants life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

As part of the event, the full admission fee for any family, couple or group that includes at least one costumed visitor will be donated directly to Make-A-Wish. This means that by simply dressing up, visitors can explore the key filming locations at Powerscourt Gardens and Waterfall, while also making a meaningful difference to children across Ireland.

Sarah Slazenger, Managing Director of Powerscourt Estate, said:
“Wednesday Full of Wish is about celebrating the magic of Halloween while supporting the incredible work of Make-A-Wish. The Estate has always been a place where imagination meets beauty, and this is a chance for visitors to have fun, dress up, and know that their visit is helping grant wishes to children who need them most.”

A Gothic Home for Hester Frump

Powerscourt also appears as the gothic residence of new character Hester Frump, played by Joanna Lumley. For the series, the façade of Powerscourt House was digitally enhanced to create the striking new exterior of Nevermore Academy. In the official trailer, Lumley can be spotted in the Italian Garden, firing a shot into the air with the Sugarloaf Mountain providing a spectacular backdrop.

History Meets Mystery

The estate’s historic graveyard, dating back to the 1860s, plays a key role in Season 2. Transformed for eerie night-time scenes, this private family burial ground lies just a short walk from Powerscourt House and can be glimpsed from the Wishing Well in the gardens, a detail sure to delight visiting fans.

Managing Director Sarah Slazenger welcomed the production:

“We were delighted to welcome Wednesday to Powerscourt. The estate is steeped in history and has provided a backdrop for movie magic for almost a century, beginning with Laurence Olivier’s Henry V in 1944. The landscape, with its natural beauty combined with history and heritage, continues to attract global productions. They come for the variety of locations but stay for the beauty and hospitality of the place.”

Star Appeal On and Off Screen

During filming, the cast enjoyed all that the estate has to offer. Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Morticia Addams, was even spotted enjoying a round on Powerscourt’s 36-hole championship golf course between takes.

Nearly 100 Years of Movie Magic

Powerscourt’s connection to film stretches back almost a century. Productions over the years have included Henry V, Excalibur, Far and Away, The Tudors, The Green Knight and Cocaine Bear. Its proximity to Ardmore and Ashford Studios, along with a new production hub opening soon in nearby Greystones, ensures Powerscourt remains a cornerstone of Ireland’s thriving screen industry.
