The Cinematic Thread: From Screen to Craft, Powerscourt’s 17:17 Exhibit – 15th Feb to 2nd March 2025
FREE ENTRY
This unique exhibition that highlights the creativity of local craft artisans while paying tribute to Wicklow’s rich cinematic legacy.
This remarkable exhibition highlights the exceptional talent of 17 craft practitioners from the Made in Wicklow platform, each of whom has created an original piece inspired by a costume from iconic films and TV series. Working in collaboration with the Irish Costume Archive Project (ICAP), these artisans have drawn inspiration from productions such as The Favourite, The Tudors, The Miracle Club, Ripper Street and Little Women. Their creations—spanning jewellery, ceramics, textiles and metalwork—will be showcased side by side with the costumes that sparked their imagination, offering a captivating interplay between the worlds of film and craft.
Among the 17 costumes on display are Rachel Weisz’s monochrome gown as Lady Sarah from The Favourite, the wedding attire of Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Annabelle Wallis from The Tudors, period costumes from Little Women, Sally Field’s cape as Aunt Betsy from David Copperfield, and iconic costumes from the award-winning Vikings, filmed at Powerscourt Estate. These costumes, preserved by the Irish Costume Archive Project (www.icap.ie), will inspire visitors to marvel at the intricate connections between costume details and the creative interpretations on display.
This exhibition has been made possible through the support of the LEADER Rural Development Fund, County Wicklow Partnership, Wicklow County Council, and Screen Wicklow. By uniting local craftsmanship with the legacy of Ireland’s film heritage, the exhibition underscores the county’s cultural and artistic vibrancy.
Additionally, a series of “Cinematic Reel Sessions” featuring industry experts will be held throughout February.
