New Design Emporium pops-up in Wicklow!
The Design Loft @ Powerscourt Estate opened on Monday July 1st 2013!
Shopping for beautiful hand-crafts and original Irish design, from jewellery and accessories to home-wares, takes an interesting twist this month with the opening of The Design Loft @ Powerscourt Estate!
An exciting new retail concept by Sinead Buckley Quinn, the spectacular gallery in Powerscourt House, on the Powerscourt Estate in Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow, will house a collection from ten different local designers, artists, and makers each month.
The Design Loft @ Powerscourt Estate is the brainchild of entrepreneur and retailer Sinead Buckley Quinn, who describes the beautiful new retail gallery as ‘a rotating pop-up shop’.
“Our concept has not been tried before in Ireland, and yet everyone we speak to loves the idea that the design collection will change every month, and that our designers and makers will also return regularly with new seasonal collections and their latest work,” Sinead Buckley Quinn says.
Irish landscape artists Simon Hoe and Blaithin Quinn, who created the Killiney Arts bone china tableware collection, are among the initial artists ‘in residence’ at The Design Loft @ Powerscourt Estate; as is Deborah von Metzradt, a jewellery and accessory designer who works from her studio in Wicklow town, using antique and vintage materials in an eclectic style.
Work by Fran Byrne will also go on sale in July in The Design Loft. The award winning Bray-based landscape and nature photographer is renowned for his beautifully composed images of County Wicklow, in particular.
The collection from local designers and makers, largely from Wicklow and Dublin, will cover most craft disciplines including pottery, wood work, jewellery, and ceramics. There are also locally produced gifts and home-wares, from exclusive scented candles to natural beauty care.
The retail offering is carefully selected by Sinead Buckley Quinn, with quality design and originality paramount in the selection process. Designers will also regularly be on hand to meet visitors and discuss their work. ‘Makers Monday’, the first Monday of each 28 day exhibition rota, will see a selection of the newly arrived designers present their collections, with detail of upcoming showcases available on Facebook and the website www.designloft.ie.
Sheelagh Daly, the CEO of Wicklow County Enterprise Board, says The Design Loft @ Powerscourt is a unique business model that provides an accessible, cost-effective opportunity for local designers and makers to showcase their products and designs, and to expand their customer base.
“From a consumer perspective there will always be something new and exciting at The Design Loft, and, for the local designers and makers, there is the opportunity to reach a discerning new market. Being able to showcase and sell regularly in such a great venue, and to meet customers while still -having time to concentrate on design work and creativity, is a win win situation,” Sheelagh Daly says.
Sinead hopes her unique new business model will roll out to other high profile venues across the country in the future.
“The Design Loft will see high-end local work actively promoted and sold, without the designer having to commit full-time to a commercial outlet, and all that that entails. Our new collaborative venture at Powerscourt Estate is an innovative route to market, that we know will facilitate entrepreneurship, and support the huge talent in local designers and makers,” Sinead adds.
Located alongside the popular Global Village and the Avoca store and café in Powerscourt House, the new Enniskerry design emporium adds further to the shopping destination, and will enhance the experience for visitors to the house and gardens, as well as patrons of the nearby luxury hotel and Powerscourt golf club.
The Design Loft @ Powerscourt Estate is open Mon – Fri, from 9.30am to 5.30pm, and 12-6pm on Sunday, and can be contacted on 0872707496 / www.designloft.ie.
