Powerscourt Distillery

Powerscourt Distillery, located in Powerscourt Estate, Co Wicklow, is the company behind the Fercullen Irish whiskey brand.

The 22,000 square foot Visitor Centre and & fully operational distillery, together with a world-class visitor centre, occupy the converted historic mill house that sits adjacent to the popular tourist attraction of Powerscourt House and Gardens.

One of the few operational distilleries in Ireland with a maturation warehouse on-site, Powerscourt Distillery began distilling its Fercullen whiskey in 2018.

The unique features of the Powerscourt Distillery & Visitor Centre experience – voted “Best Visitor Centre Attraction in Ireland 2023” include immersive whiskey production, interactive tastings, a focus on heritage and storytelling and the Fercullen Irish Whiskey and food pairing experience – “Taste of Ireland”.

The distillery celebrated a much-anticipated milestone last year when the first Fercullen whiskey came of age — the spirit has to be casked for at least three years to give it its flavour and colour — and Fercullen Falls Small Batch Irish Whiskey was launched; the first (legal) whiskey distilled in Wicklow in over a hundred years.

It joined the flagship Fercullen 8 Year Old Irish Whiskey and 10 Year Old Single Grain, a Fercullen 18-Year-Old Single Malt, along with other limited releases and single cask opportunities that make up the Fercullen range.

The lands that encompass Powerscourt Estate were called ‘FeraCulann’ in ancient times and this inspired the brand name Fercullen. Naming the brand “Powerscourt Whiskey”.

Pure mineral water that filters into the estate’s aquafer from the nearby landmark Powerscourt Waterfall is used in the distillery’s operations.

There are more ways in which Powerscourt Distillery is championing and harnessing the exceptional and unique local opportunities and connections on its doorstep.

Grain-to-glass and gate-to-plate concepts are a match made in heaven at the distillery and visitor centre, where one of the tours incorporates a paired tasting of Fercullen whiskeys and locally produced artisan food delicacies.

The pairing experience is carefully curated by the distillery’s in-house food and beverage specialist, food historian Santina Kennedy, to communicate the beauty of Powerscourt and the local area through the medium of food and drink, and to promote sustainable food and drink production.

The paired tasting menu features honey from hives on Olly’s Farm, which is literally a stone’s throw from the distillery in an orchard on Powerscourt Estate. Locally produced charcuterie from the Wooded Pig, Wicklow Farmhouse Cheese and Fercullen whiskey chocolates, feature as part of the pairing, too.

Recently launched Picin offering is a “Irish style Pintxo pop up” – is available all day to visitors to the Distillery.

The Powerscourt Distillery & Visitor Centre is open daily for tours and tastings please see website for most up to date tour times and opening hours.

WHAT OUR VISITORS SAY

This place is amazing. Soo beautiful. We’ve been many times and each time we love it. We chose to come in May but maybe next time we’ll head over in June hopefully to see all the flowers blooming. The walks are soo relaxing and the view is just amazing. This time we stayed for lunch and cannot praise enough their food. Such fresh and tasty soup and sandwiches and yummy desserts. Cannot wait for our next visit as even if it’s far away from where we live and takes almost 3 hours to drive, it’s just soo beautiful ?

We visited Powerscourt gardens for the first time in late October. The walled gardens still had a colourful display of flowers and shrubs, the trees were in wonderful autumn shades and the Japanese gardens were delightful with the Acers looking very attractive. Powerscourt is certainly worth travelling to see if you are in the area.

I’ve been here many years ago and the grounds are just as beautiful as I remembered. The new addition of shops, Avoca cafe, nursery and distillery just adds even more things to do. This is a great place to stop and spend sometime.

This garden was incredible. We went on a very rainy day and it was difficult to really enjoy the beauty that was there. We quickly walked thru the formal gardens, Japanese garden and tower house. The collection of trees were magnificent but it was raining too hard to read all the labels Would definitely go back if we get a chance.

The walled gardens are the most amazing flowers I have ever seen. I could have looked at them for hours. The rest of the grounds are very beautiful and peaceful when there aren’t large tour groups. The lunch at Avoca is very good, fresh and reasonably priced. You can even have some retail therapy at the stores. Again, the most amazing flowers!!!
