Dramatic terraces fall away, sweeping through stunning formal planting schemes and statuary towards Triton Lake, with the distinctive shape of the Great Sugar Loaf mountain providing a beautiful backdrop. One of the oldest parts of the gardens, and steeped in history, the walled garden is also one of the most charming and restful spots to soak up the richness of nature. From the dramatic sweeps of tulips in spring to the romantic roses of summer, via the wild beauty of the Bee Sanctuary with its sways of lavender, these stunning surroundings are punctuated by beautiful water features and rich with natural life. With the scents and sights on offer, this a true relaxation destination on your tour of the gardens.
Head Gardener Alex spent his childhood running across the lawns at Powerscourt. He has since spent a decade amassing all the qualifications and experience required to be its custodian. Joined by a team of horticultural experts, they tend every aspect of the garden’s upkeep for you to enjoy.

Travel halfway across the world as you step into the Japanese garden, with its authentic plants and picturesque pagoda. Carefully crafted in concentric circles over 100 years ago, the design is both intriguing and exquisite. A garden for all seasons, you’ll discover new scents, colours and textures each time you visit.
A fun-filled voyage of discovery for adults and children alike, you’ll meet over half a century’s worth of much-loved family pets, including some rather unusual ones. Kids will love reading about the inhabitants such as ‘Eugenie’ the Jersey cow who had 17 calves and produced over 100,000 gallons of milk!
Tower Valley features a wide variety of beautiful, distinctive and unusual trees. It is also home to the Pepperpot Tower, modelled on an actual pepper pot from Lord Powerscourt’s dining table. Take in the view from the top of the tower whilst the children’s imaginations run riot amid the canons and atmospheric tower surroundings.
Throughout the gardens you’ll meet gods and mythical creatures, striking statues sourced from across Europe to create this incredible collection. Whether you choose to learn the history of each piece or simply enjoy their stunning looks, they lend an international flavour and drama to the gardens.
Two centuries of tree planting sees Powerscourt immerse visitors in a dizzying array of different species, each selected to add to the landscape. From the impressive avenue of beeches that greet you as you arrive at the estate to our Douglas Fir, which is the tallest tree in Ireland, there’s plenty for all to enjoy.
