The Cool Planet Experience is a fun, interactive climate action experience – the first of it’s kind in the world! Based within the beautiful Powerscourt House & Gardens, you can immerse yourself in the story of Ireland’s changing climate, the science behind it & discover some wonderfully innovative ( & high tech) ways to reduce your carbon footprint. The experience takes approx 1 hour & is the perfect accompaniment to a visit to Powerscourt House & Gardens.
Each visitor calculates their personal carbon footprint, the information is downloaded into a wristband, and as they go through the various rooms they experience the exhibition in a very personal way. The centre appeals to all ages and many of our visitors have described the experience as life changing. Connecting science, engineering, gaming and drama, the centre is the first of ten that are planned to open around the world over the next three years, with plans already in place for centres in Dubai and Sydney.
Cool Planet Experience is suitable for age 7+ and in addition to the tour, we offer a range of group and school workshop options led by one of our Planeteers, where visitors experience the explosive science of climate change and the engineering that will help solve it! All our interactive experiments, demonstrations and activities are curriculum linked, designed to ignite a curiosity of STEM subjects. Cool Planet Experience is an accredited Discovery Centre under Science Foundation Ireland’s Discover Primary Science and Maths Programme. Schools can gain credit towards their Science Foundation Ireland Discover Science and Maths Awards by visiting our Centre. We also offer a range of second level workshops for TY, CSPE etc. and bespoke corporate experiences.
In the interest of public safety and the absolute requirement for social distancing, we have decided to close the Estate, including the House, Gardens, River Walk and Waterfall, until further notice.
We have given the situation a great deal of thought and we understand that our visitors will be disappointed by this and we apologise for the inconvenience it may cause, particularly when being outside in nature is beneficial for mental and physical health.
At this time, we all have a social responsibility, including Powerscourt Estate, to minimise any harm to our friends, colleagues, and families. We will be reviewing this situation on an ongoing basis. Please keep an eye on the News Section of our website and social media for updates.
Thank you for your understanding and patience and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Estate before not too long. We hope you and your families are keeping safe.
